Since 2015, Lovell Chen has provided advice to the Metro Tunnel Project as part of the broader Aurecon Jacobs Mott MacDonald Joint Venture (AJM-JV) team, delivering Technical, Planning and Engagement services for the Project. With numerous sensitive interfaces with state and locally-listed heritage places of various types, our role in the planning phase of the Project was to identify heritage issues and potential impacts, and to provide guidance on appropriate mitigation measures, whether through avoidance or design refinement. We continue to provide heritage advice to the project as required.
Construction began in 2018 and the project is scheduled for completion in 2025. The Project delivers a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury to Cranbourne/Pakenham, with 9 km of twin railway tunnels for high-capacity trains and five new underground stations; Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac stations. The new State Library and Town Hall stations directly link to the existing Melbourne Central and Flinders Street stations.
