In March, Lovell Chen and the Pellicano Group called for expressions of interest from experienced artists for the creation of a contemporary artwork to form part of the heritage interpretation for the redeveloped Ballarat Railway Station Precinct.
The idea is that the artwork commission will make use of salvaged railway materials, helping create a sense of place and increasing understanding of the significance of the site. We are looking for a public artwork that will become a key feature of the precinct — a photogenic meeting place and intriguing talking point for Ballarat.
Expressions of interest were open for individual artists, or groups of artists — local practitioners are strongly encouraged to apply. Three shortlisted submissions will be selected for development of concept designs (paid). The final commission budget will be between $50,000-$75,000 (ex GST).
