Heritage Consultant

About the opportunity
Lovell Chen offers the chance to work with some of the best minds in their fields in the country. We are leaders in heritage consultancy, and we are seeking an experienced heritage consultant to join our Melbourne-based practice.
We offer the opportunity to work across many facets of contemporary cultural heritage management — with excellent scope for career growth and development — and the chance to inspire and be inspired.
The core role is the delivery of heritage services to a wide-ranging private sector and government client base, in Victoria and nationally. The primary responsibility is the preparation of — and contribution to —advisory, strategic and statutory heritage-related advice and reports. These include due diligence pre-acquisition advice, heritage appraisals, impact assessments, conservation and heritage management plans and master plans.
Reflecting the dynamic nature of heritage management more broadly, a keen interest in contemporary heritage thinking is required, and an awareness of recent developments.
About you
You will have a sound knowledge of Australian architecture and hold an honours or postgraduate degree in a relevant field, such as architecture or heritage management and will have at least five years’ experience as a consultant focused on built heritage, or the equivalent experience in government. You will be able to demonstrate your ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team environment.

Key knowledge and skills required include:
— excellent written and verbal communications skills
— demonstrated ability to complete projects to a high standard, on time and to budget
— comprehensive technical knowledge of local, state and national heritage legislation and guidelines, the Burra Charter and other relevant documents, and experience in their application
— proven ability to independently manage the delivery of heritage services and projects
— proven ability to provide heritage advice and guidance to clients and team members, operating within relevant statutory and legislative frameworks
— demonstrated ability in developing relationships with clients, new and existing
— demonstrated experience in the preparation of proposals and bids for heritage projects
