An aspiration to challenge traditional approaches to heritage practice is a common thread connecting Adam Mornement’s diverse portfolio of projects. This is grounded in a recognition that the role of cultural heritage in society is not static. It also recognises the imperative for creative and clear-sighted solutions to the needs of clients.
Adam has worked in cultural heritage management for over 15 years. He is skilled in the development of strategic solutions to realise the potential of heritage places. Recent examples include a management plan for Federation Square (Melbourne), among the first places in the world completed in the 21st century that is subject to statutory heritage controls; a heritage framework to guide the reactivation of the University of Tasmania’s Domain Campus; and a conservation management plan for the St Patrick’s Cathedral precinct in Melbourne.
Adam is also experienced in the fields of research and analysis. He recently co-authored a study for the Heritage Council of Victoria making recommendations for revised approaches to the assessment and management of places of social value. In all cases emphasis is placed on understanding client needs as a basis for crafting practical solutions to complex challenges.
