This year, Sydney is to be venue for the 20th Triennial ICOMOS General Assembly, together with a four-day Scientific Symposium. Lovell Chen is supporting the event as an Opal Patron.
Providing it once again becomes possible to travel and to gather, the world’s cultural heritage professionals will assemble at the International Convention Centre Sydney in October 2020 — the first time an ICOMOS General Assembly has been convened in the Pacific region. The event is accompanied by a 10-day programme of workshops, expert meetings and site visits, including a trip to Victoria where delegates will tour our latest project at the Royal Exhibition Building, one of Australia’s 20 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
The theme of the Scientific Symposium is Shared Cultures – Shared Heritage – Shared Responsibility, which the organisers describe as “reflecting the global context of heritage as part of cultural identity in a time of rapid population shift, conflict and environmental uncertainty”.
ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) is an international organisation based in Paris. It serves as the principal cultural heritage advisor to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Australia ICOMOS advises that it is unable to confirm at this time whether the GA2020 arrangements will be amended, deferred or cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak.
