Goods Shed 2 — a heritage listed railway shed built in the 1880s — has been redeveloped as contemporary office space within a fully restored heritage building. Lovell Chen was responsible for both heritage consulting and for works to the significant façades and roof elements.
The project commenced with a conservation management plan
that established the guidelines and principles for future adaptation and works. The document also identified those elements for which restoration and reconstruction were a priority.
Lovell Chen undertook the survey and documentation of active conservation works. Works included wholesale removal of lead paint, repointing of the brickwork, repair of the structural iron gutter, sourcing slate and re-slating the roof, dismantling and reconstruction of the nave and aisle lanterns.
In 2010 Lovell Chen, in conjunction with Elenberg Fraser and
BVN Architecture, won the Planning Minister's Heritage Award for the adaptive re-use of Goods Shed North.
