557-563 St Kilda Road, Melbourne
In conjunction with SJB Architects, Lovell Chen has undertaken design works for the conversion of the former Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind's heritage-listed site on St Kilda Road into a boutique hotel.
Lovell Chen has also provided extensive heritage consulting services to the project, including the preparation of a Heritage Impact Statement and other documentation required for submission to Heritage Victoria. The practice prepared the Heritage Infrastructure & Landscape Management Plan required by Heritage Victoria in order to develop the site and allow subdivision, a process with which Lovell Chen was also involved.
The practice is administering exterior conservation and re-instatement works to the 1868 bluestone and brick Victorian building as the first stage in the site's redevelopment. Works include: re-instatement of the original slated turrets; stonework, masonry and render conservation works; re-instatement of the northern façade to the MacPherson wing on demolition of a later extension; and refurbishment of all external door and window joinery.
