Shakespeare Grove, Hawthorn, Melbourne
The Victorian mansion Borussia dates from 1879.
It's most recent use was for the junior campus of Bialek College but it had since become delapidated, suffering from fire damage and neglect. In 2004, we were commissioned to restore the building to original condition, reinstating internal and external detailing.
The house is finished in cement render, with a tiled roof. Before
restoration, its grounds consisted of concrete, bitumin and gravel areas, with remnant slabs of demolished buildings still in place. As part of our project, a 1990s addition at the rear was taken down and replaced with a new family pavilion. The design of this pavilion complements the scale and form of the mansion, its success ensured through considered choice of materials, finishes and colours.
